The Power of Positive Self-Expectancy: The Psychology of Winning
An Article By Denis Waitley
Positive self-expectancy is the first, most outwardly identifiable quality of a top-achieving, winning human being. Positive self-expectancy is pure and simple optimism: real enthusiasm for everything you do. And optimism is expecting the most favorable result from your own actions.
There never was a winner who didn’t expect to win in advance. Winners understand that life is a self-fulfilling prophecy. And they know that you usually get what you expect in the long run. So winners accept the belief that hope and a deep, unbreakable faith — forged into a fundamental attitude of positive self-expectancy — is the eternal spring from which all creative, motivating energy flows.
The idea that faith conquers all has been verified from biblical times to current-day medical histories to daily stories of heroism and come-from-behind victories and rags-to-riches success we read about every day in the newspapers. They’re human biographies of greatness we read about, hear about, and watch on TV. And we marvel over these special people who pull themselves up by their own bootstraps.
Let me ask you this: Did it ever occur to you that you, also, are one of these special people? Well, you are! You see, most of the real winners in life are so busy contributing, they don’t even think of seeking publicity for their acts. Most of them are discovered by the media, caught in the act of winning. Only a few famous people are winners, and only a few winners will become famous people. That’s because success is a very individual thing. Success is the way you spend your minutes doing your best for others. It is the way you take the talent you were born with, and the knowledge and skills you have since developed, and use them fully, toward a purpose that makes you feel worthwhile, according to your own individual, internal standards.
In your quest for excellence, there are two powerful sets of great expectations affecting your life. First, there are the expectations that others close to you have for you. And then there are the expectations that you have for yourself. While we all try to rise to the expectations others have for us, there is no question that our limitations and success will be based, most often, on our own expectations for ourselves. What the mind dwells upon, the body acts upon.
As a behavioral scientist studying the lives of thousands of winners and losers, I find that “psycho,” the mind, is your own best fortuneteller to forecast the actions of “soma,” the body. And understanding this mind-and-body, psychosomatic relationship is the key to understanding the importance of the first, most outwardly identifiable quality of a winner: that of positive self-expectancy. Winners expect another good day, a promotion, a raise, to find a parking place, a productive meeting, and a harmonious family life — and they usually get them. Winners know that their actions will be controlled by their current obsessions. Losers generally expect more of the same frustration, more problems, the loss of a job, a dull evening, bad service, and failure. Most importantly, losers expect to feel bad and get sick — and they do.
Careful studies of the life histories of thousands of widely differing people have shown that the probability of health changes, such as sickness, accident, even pregnancy, can be predicted. We are learning that all disease is not necessarily caused by germs. All of us have germs, but only a few become ill as a result. Instead, the cause of disease is loosely linked with the way individuals react to life. The link between stressful life changes, expectant anxiety, and health changes seems to be associated with the body’s immune system, which makes antibodies to fight foreign material and germs. Situations that arouse fear and anxiety suppress antibody productions as well.
Distrustful situations may also upset production of hormones, which have a role in emotional balance. An emotionally upset individual is much more prone to accidents.
But what does all this have to do with positive self-expectancy and winning attitudes? Simply this: Mental obsessions DO have physical manifestations. You do become that which you fear. You get what you suspect. You are that which you expect to be. This power of the self-fulfilling prophecy is one of the most amazing phenomena of human nature. What do you expect for yourself? You should expect the best. The winners in life, believing in the self-fulfilling prophecy, keep their momentum moving upward by expecting better jobs, more money, good health, better family relationships, financial security, warm friendships, and success.
All really successful individuals fervently desire and expect to win — no matter what curve life throws at them. Think about Helen Keller, who graduated magna cum laude and devoted her entire life to the service of others, although she had been deaf and blind since infancy. Franklin Delano Roosevelt had polio. The modern artist Matisse created some of his best work when he was nearly blind, aged, and bedridden. A young woman named Patti Catalano overcame the self-destructive habits of overeating and chain-smoking to become one of the top 10 marathon runners in the world. I remember a little girl who took her optimism from the back streets of Harlem to the center court at Wimbledon — Althea Gibson. In spite of their handicaps, they expected to do their best. They wanted to achieve and expected to excel.
But there’s more to positive self-expectancy than meets the eye. Medical researchers have discovered that the body produces natural morphine-like substances that operate on certain receptor sites in the brain and spinal cord. These natural internal opiates are called endorphins. Secreted and used by the brain, endorphins reduce the experience and screen out unpleasant stimuli. In fact, the presence of endorphins actually causes the feeling of well-being.
In one related study, actors were wired to electrodes and connected to blood catheters. They were then asked to perform various scenes. When they portrayed characters who were angry or depressed, endorphin levels dropped. But when the scene called for emoting joy, confidence, and love, endorphin levels shot up dramatically. Science has shown that positive thoughts produce endorphins. Endorphins, in turn, encourage feelings of optimism and well-being. So it works both ways. You sing because you’re happy, and you’re happy because you’re singing. Sixty to 70 percent of the population who visit physicians are sick as a result of an emotional feeling of stress because of the pressure they feel from life. That’s why it’s critically important to remember that the key to winning positive self-expectancy is to understand that in the long run, every individual receives just about what he or she expects. And if you have faith that if you do things the right way, you’ll be rewarded accordingly — you’ll be a winner!
Optimism is a way of life. Some techniques for generating a greater attitude of positive self-expectancy include the following: First, look at problems as opportunities — search for the favorable aspects of every situation. Next, learn to stay relaxed and friendly, no matter how much pressure and tension you’re under. In the beginning, it’s likely that you’ll have to fake it. But the truth is that both calmness and courage are learned habits, and there’s no better way to learn a good habit than by actually getting in and doing it and living it. Next, and this is very important, in dealing with other people, instead of griping, try praising. In place of cynicism, try optimism. Instead of being unhelpfully critical, try being constructively helpful. You know these are learned habits, too. And everyone is dependent on others for at least part of their own positive self-expectancy.
And next, get excited and enthusiastic about your own dream. This excitement is like a forest fire. You can smell it, taste it, and see it a mile away. Everybody loves a winner. But nobody crowds around a loser’s locker room. Don’t run around with the doomsayers who look up and shout that the sky is always falling. Optimism and realism go together. They are the problem-solving twins. Pessimism and cynicism are the two worst companions. Surround yourself with the “no-problem, can-do” type with big dreams like your own. It’s the excitement of the big dream that carries you through the setback that you encounter. The single most outwardly identifiable quality of a winner is positive self-expectancy — optimism. It’s the key to good health. It’s the key to happiness, and it puts the favorable inclination toward the achievement of every goal you set. Positive self-expectancy is the winner’s edge.

The Attraction Accelerator by Stephen Pierce
I know the craze for the Law of Attraction (LOA) has sort of “fading away” - whatever the case is, personally I think that this stuff works though it may sound too good to be true for many still.
Just to share some of the incidents that leave me truly intrigued by the power of LOA.
The Law of Attraction or even known as the Power of Your Subconscious Mind has worked for me in many situations like:
- An ex-colleague called me later in the day when I was just thinking of why did this guy not called me at all?
- Getting to watch a movie that I know, never in my life, I will get to watch unless I go and search for the DVD - so what happened is that I just have the postcard, I saw it, visualize what it is to be watching this movie, whoila, the show appeared in one of the Saturdays Late Night. Shocking but true!
If you are with me, and still believe in the Law of Attraction, or rather The Power Of Your Subconscious Mind - may I introduce you to a good resource of amplifying your power in attracting whatever you want in life:
The Attraction Accelerator by Stephen Pierce

Briefly explaining what this will do - if you have read a lot of books on LOA, one advice to note for LOA to work, is being able to visualize what you want without any negative emotions, let your mind set to attract best while you are sleeping and doing what is required to receive them.
If you are able to do this well, then the Attraction Accelerator will help to amplify that effect by helping you to visualize and accept better.
I have gotten my hands on what he is offering and I’m happy with the package he is offering:
- 2 MP3 Downloads that will help you to visualize whatever you crave for in vivid details (while sleeping) and helping you to taking actions and actively receiving what you have craved for (while you’re awake).
- A report that can help you to master the art of vivid and emotional visualization.
These MP3s are available for instant download so you can put them to good use wherever you are now. (try not to play the evening version - the music will make you sleepy!). Do note that there is an option for you to order a Physical CD that can be mailed to you for a small flat fee.
So get your hands on this resource to help you visualize and receive better today!

Seven Myths About Weight Gain by Dr. Mark Hyman And More!
I will like to share with you an article by Dr. Mark Hyman on the Seven Common Myths that many people have on the issue of weight gaining. Also being shared further is the Seven Keys to Weight Loss. Lastly, enjoy a youtube video on the relationship of weight loss with emotional freedom techniques. Are you ready? Let’s go then!
There are seven myths many of us believe that confuse, confound, and thwart our efforts to lose weight. These beliefs are impediments to success. According to my research, here they are:
MYTH #1: EAT LESS + EXERCISE MORE = WEIGHT LOSS
Restricting calories turns on ancient mechanisms that prevent starvation. These slow your metabolism to conserve energy and trigger a cascade of molecules in the blood so you receive hunger signals that are too strong to ignore—all leading to weight gain.
MYTH #2: YOU CAN CONTROL WEIGHT BY COUNTING CALORIES.
All calories are not created equal. Food that enters your blood stream quickly promotes weight gain; food that enters slowly promotes weight loss. For example, sugar from soda enters your blood very rapidly; the calories you aren’t using is stored as fat. The same amount of sugar from kidney beans enters your blood slowly. Because your body has a greater chance to make use of the calories over time, more is burned and less stored.
MYTH #3: EATING FAT MAKES YOU FAT
We have been brainwashed to believe that if we eat fat, we will get fat. There’s one problem—science does not support this myth. In the last 40 years, our national fat consumption has decreased from 43 percent to 34 percent of our total calories. Eating less fat than ever, we are growing fatter. The reason? Low-fat diets are often rich in starchy or sugary carbohydrates, which raise insulin levels and promote weight gain.
MYTH #4: EATING NO-CARB OR LOW-CARB WILL MAKE YOU THIN.
Carbohydrates are actually the single most important food in your diet for long-term health.
As with calories and fats, there are different types of carbs that interact with your genes, leading to remarkably different effects. Human beings have not evolved to metabolize the highly processed and refined carbohydrates we eat that contribute to the major diseases: diabetes, heart disease, dementia, and cancer. Happily, vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and beans are also carbs, good carbs.
MYTH #5: SKIPPING MEALS HELPS YOU LOSE WEIGHT
One of the reasons that Americans are getting to be as big as Sumo wrestlers is because we actually eat like them. The Sumo diet causes ordinary people to gain extraordinary amounts of weight. They skip breakfast, train for five hours (working up an appetite), eat a huge meal, nap for several hours, eat dinner, and go to sleep. Does skipping breakfast and eating a large meal just before sleep sound familiar? It should. It’s the American Way!
MYTH #6: THE FRENCH PARADOX MEETS THE AMERICAN PARADOX
The French have a reputation as a culture that knows about food, what to do with it, and how to eat healthy. The French eat more fat, drink more wine, and yet suffer less heart disease and are less obese than Americans, right? That’s only part of the story. The truth is that the French eat real (fresh, full of nutrients, and minimally processed) food, they eat less food, they eat food more slowly than Americans do, and they walk more than we do.
Myth #7: FOOD POLITICS: GOVERNMENT AND INDUSTRY ARE THE GUARDIANS OF OUR HEALTH
An obese America is big business for the food and pharmaceutical industries. The food industry spends more than $33 billion annually on marketing; 70 percent of those dollars go to pushing fast food, convenience foods, candy, snacks, soft drinks, alcoholic beverages, and dessert. Only 2.2 percent is spent on advertising for fruits, vegetables, grains, or beans. The main classes of drugs available for treating high cholesterol are among the biggest selling in history. Our government can’t find money to fund public health campaigns to promote the scientific principles of good nutrition, but it can increase agricultural subsidies from $18 billion in 1996 to $28 billion in 2000, to supply a glut of soybeans and corn that is transformed in the laboratory into toxic food additives, super sugars, and super fats known as high-fructose corn syrup and hydrogenated soybean oil.
With a better understanding from the myths, will you like to know the seven keys that may just help you with weight loss? Continue reading on…

Using EFT To Clear The Top 10 Destructive Money Beliefs
As part of the Emotional Freedom Techniques Series, I will like to share this article by Carol Tuttle with you as posted in the official EFT site.
You can click here to read the article in its natural state or continue reading a summary of what it’s being shared.
Do you know that one of the reasons that you are not making ends meet today, could be that you are holding some negative beliefs on yourself with relationship to Money.
My mum has this negative belief. All the while when I am still young, she is always telling herself that any money earned is meant to be spent. And I can say that, she held that belief very strongly. Any money that she’s earned, it’s spent on something and by the end of the month, she has little left. Being brought up in that environment, I can share that I am still affected by that belief but with the help of EFT and the teachings of many authors of personal development - I have managed to control that bad habit.
If you are truly having similar issues, it’s time to do some research into yourself. Understand how you were brought up, the habits being implanted into you since young or any bad experiences with money you have been subjected to…
One of the ways as shared by the article is that EFT can help to flow and grow money. If you are having limited beliefs about money - it’s time to tap them out.
As shared in the article - while tapping all the points repeat the following set-up phrase to release your destructive beliefs about money.
Even though I am still believing, I now choose to release:
- Money is not spiritual
- I will never have enough money
- I’ll probably just fail anyway
- But we can’t afford that
- Rich people are greedy and dishonest
- If I’m successful, my friends will be jealous and stop liking me
- I’m no better than my parents, so I shouldn’t make more then they did
- I might forget what’s truly important and not like the person I’ve become
- Money is the root of all evil
- I’m not worthy
Next, while tapping all the points, repeat this set-up statement with each of the following reframes.
I am now believing and radiating these truths about money:
- I am grateful I am free to create whatever I want with money, I now choose to experience money as a spiritual resource in my life
- I am grateful that there is enough money for everyone and it is everyone’s birthright to create wealth. I choose to create mine now.
- I am successful, I am safe to making mistakes and learning better ways to do business, I am ready, success is my god-given natural right
- I am always flowing more in than is going out, I am wise in my purchases and a good steward of my money
- I am grateful that I am an honest and generous rich person
- I am a great example to my friends and associates, as I choose my birthright of wealth others are more free to choose this as well
- I am knowing my parents did the best they knew how, and I am free and it is appropriate to create more than what they chose to experience
- I am safe to create wealth. I am always following my spiritual guidance, it does not matter how much money I have, I always choose this
- Money is a god-given resource that I am choosing to use to bless my life and others
- I am worthy and I am ready, I choose wealth now.
The statements can be adjusted or changed to suit your level of understanding because how each perceive is not the same. So adjust the statement according to your own - do note that the statements must be positive.
Next, with a bit of understanding of how your Subconscious Mind work - Focus on the negative, You’ll get negative; Focus on the positive, you’ll get positive results.
Lastly, whatever the situation you’re in, do not let the lack of money be your focus, rather do what’s required of you to do the right thing and money will come to you naturally.

Acupuncture is Physical, Emotional Freedom Techniques is Emotional
I have given a video introduction to what is Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) all about, hope all of you enjoy the explanation, the video and starting to know what is EFT all about.
As mentioned in the previous post, I have mentioned that EFT is actually an emotional version of Acupuncture, except needles aren’t necessary.
So what is Acupuncture all about and why is it so popular among the Chinese and part of the Traditional Chinese Medicine practice?
There is a deep understanding in Traditional Chinese Medicine studies that there is a form of Energy or ‘Qi’ that is constantly flowing freely in the body system. A note is that if you are a logical person and based everything on facts, this form of energy cannot be seen by naked eyes as per the understanding of Quantum Physics that everything is made up of particles of energy.
So if you are a healthy person, this means that this form of Energy is free to move inside the body with absolutely no obstruction. But if you start to fall sick, this form of energy will be obstructed in some parts of your body and that’s where Acupuncture will come in well.
Acupuncture uses special forms of needles to treat the affected areas and the needles are usually inserted into the Meridian Points as seen below:
